EV360: Intra-Frame Truss

Our team experienced an extensive failure of the drive train on September 11th due to mis-alignment of the drive wheel. After this design set-back, we have decided to give higher priority to frame alignment. Part of this new press for alignment includes a truss to connect the frame at locations where there does not yet exist connection points.

Below is my initial ideation, where I was inspired by the geometric configuration of the tops of bridges. My goal, due to size restrictions of our water-jet cutter, was to create a modular truss unit with maximum dimension of 12″ that could be manufactured several times and placed anywhere on the outer frame.

Further ideation and sketching, moving closer to CAD….

Initial CAD:

Additional trusses will need to be CADed for unique locations such as above the drive-wheel and behind the seat, as these inner sections of the frame do not follow the same curvature as the outer part of the frame.
